A strong 5.

OWAHHHOWAHHHOWAHHH. Yeezus. You guys aren’t gonna like this review. As I’m typing this review I’m smiling because I know how many of you fuckers like this album. Yeezus is a hard, static, crushing album that contains Kanye’s most hidden gems and most popular songs. But I think that these hidden gems should just stay hidden. This is arguably Kanye’s most experimental album and will forever hold a place in producing history.

On Sight

Peak. Its opening, gorgeous, its weird, static, ear piercing noises is what gives on sight life and a voice to tell a convoluted story of whats going in Kanye’s fracturing mind. The lyrics are disgusting, horrifying, distasteful and yet it works so well. It continuously puts in a tug of war between good and shit. The instrumentals make me want to kill myself and yet I want and more and more.

“We Get This Bitch Shaking Like Parkinsons”

Fucking diabolical. These lyrics are scattered althrought Yeezus. For better or for worse. Secondly, the sample in On Sight is peak. The lyrics perfectly convey Kanye’s mindset going into this album and its so bold, its impressive. On Sight is a good album opener and a strong 7.

Black  Skinhead

Its industrial beat, brash guitar, and static beats all mash up together to form a song about racism and fame. This seems to be a consistent trend throughout Yeezus but its specifically explored in Black Skinhead. Its drums incredibly potent in this song, with its opening lick beig heard throughout the track. The lyrics although basic still convey his firm (oh boy) stance on racism. His rapping seems to follow the style of Power from MBDTF and its very intoxicating. Black Skinhead has unfortunately been overused and overdone by the modern media however the song will forever remain a good song in my books. Black Skinhead is a solid 7.

I Am A god.

Oh god. Uhm, its shit. Im just saying this openly and honestly. Its not a good song. Sure it continues the themes of industrial music and Yeezus but its just not good. The constant repeating of “I am a god” is so weak and pretentious its like fuck me. Its instrumentals are weak and throws away all the energy that was built up by its predecessors. I Am A God is such a weak track for the record and a really weak 4 in my eyes. Instrumentals are stale and feels empty at times, and the song is just overall dead.

New Slaves

From the beginning to its end, New Slaves is peak. Its opening sample is impressive and Kanye’s barbaric, almost insane rapping style lives and breathes hatred towards the media and how they try to “control him”. Its nice to see him bring something so passionate to the track and the production on this is top notch. Even the stupid dick bars in the track are funny and contribute to the idea of him being original. Now the ending. Perfection. Its such a weird change of pace but it works in a way. Frank Ocean’s ad-libs are enjoyable and adds depth to the track. New Slaves is a 9.

Hold My Liquor

I don’t fuck with this track man. Like the feature is alright but like eurgh the beats suck soooo bad. Industrial beats are hard to do, they are invasive, abrasive, and intrusive to whatever you combine this clusterfuck of a beat with. And unfortunately it just doesn’t work here. The rapping is alright but the instrumentals are so weak. Hold My Liquor is a weak 5.

I’m In it

Bro is not in it. Hes not in anything actually.

“Eatin' Asian pussy, all I need was sweet and sour sauce”

What the actual fuckkk. I give it a 2. Shut the fuck up, the second half is better but still shut up. It’s a 2. Its bad. Its not good. Im not gonna say why because I cant be bothered. But its bad.

Guilt Trip

What may be the most underrated track on the record, Guilt Trip is a strong 8. I just love the beats man. The industrial electric synthy bullshit Kanye does on Guilt Trip and New Slaves is so nice. Rap verses are good but the lyrics are wet as fuck. Not a good wet. A sitting on a wet toilet seat wet. The Cudi part at the end. Oh Cudi. Oh my sweet baby boy Cudi. The sample is peak. Everything about this song is so good. Guilt trip is an 8.

Bound 2

Will we ever make it to the church steps? Are you tired of loving? Will I ever find love? Bound 2 is a masterpiece. To the sample, to the track’s structure, to the rapping, to the lyrics. Peak. Bound 2 is beautiful and a perfect 9.

Overall, Yeezus can be summed up as experimental. Its industrial sounds paved away for harsher sounds and shifted the sound of rap yet again. Yeezus contains one of the best Kanye West songs it just sometimes loses itself in ear piercing noises and stupid lyrics. Yeezus is a a strong 5.
