  • Track Reviews of this year Part 1:

Houdini, Parking Lot, Lithonia, Not Like Us, No Face Houdini A track I was debating whether to review or not has finally found its place in this review. Houdini, for the goddamn trillion millionth tackles the idea of old Eminem or if you will “Slim Shady”. First of all, eminems voice still proves to be amusing, still managing to hold the charm of Slim Shady but the lyrics ehh not so much. But Ill get to that later. The samples it uses utilize majority of the usual chord progressions found in his older music, but it just feels too forced. The once youthful spirit has reformed into a lingering stench that just refuses to die. Talking about the lingering stench, it fucking smells shit. Like dog shit. I don’t know where I’m going with this. Eminem literally cannot let his old self go and I don’t know if its better or for worse. Majority of the bars in this song (im using bars incredibly loosely) are so stupid but it goes to a point where I have to let it go. If I had to analyse this song and nitpick it I could but this is just one of those songs where you switch your brain off and let Eminem remind you about a more racist version of him but still remaining like a tame little bitch. However, there are some bars which I do admit are pretty clever. “My transgender cat is Siamese Identifies as Black, but acts Chinese” Fucking Gold. All in all, Houdini is a pretty shit song lmao. But its good shit. The type of song where you just listen to the song for its energy and its bouncy instrumentals. It’s a song that I can jive with and pretend that I’m some edgy racist white man. And I love it. I expected this level of quality of Eminem so I’m not disappointed. It’s a 5.   Parking Lot Sampling. Beautiful. Mustard has become one of my favourite producers this year, leading production on songs like Not Like Us (where ill get to later), and older tracks like Ballin’ by Roddy Ricch. Travis Scott’s usual psychedelic feel creates a poisonous atmosphere that transcends me to a higher level. Lyrics are a bit hard to hear but its not about the lyrics for a Travis Scott song. It’s about the feeling. And ye, it makes me feel a lot. Parking Lot is a strong 7.   Lithonia Hopping back onto the Gambino train, Gambino shares with us his first track to his final studio album, Bando Stone and the Brave New World. Lithonia seems to be a passionate, moving, love song that yet again grows on me as a good song. Its stripped bareback instrumentals at the beginning of the track eases into full blown heavy guitar instrumentals backed with a fierce vocal performance from Gambino. Its lyrics, although basic, carry waves as its stacked vocals create a beautiful collage of heartbreak stretching outwards to an open field of foolish love and pain. Gambino’s nobody gives a fuck mentality although wacky somehow blends with the harsh guitar and drums. Im honestly just gonna glaze the fuck out of this song because I love Gambino. Its just a 9.   Not Like Us Clever, groovy, witty. A perfect 10. I forgot to write something here because I was too busy enjoying the music.   No Face With every ten I give, theres always a fucking 1 out there. I was originally gonna give this song a 1 but I don’t wanna do Ghostface Killah like that. Its drums are punchy and its samples are quite reminiscent of Kanye’s older works. Killah’s rapping is brash, and bombastic, hard carrying this song and saving it from a 1. The chorus is really fun. But then motherfucking Kanye opens his mouth. Im not even gonna like analyse or nitpick what hes saying. Ill just show you these quotes so you can decide for yourself. “Till I post-nut, cum to my senses” “I was mad, I fucked her so hard, until she came clean” “Got that new rrrt-, it’s a May-bay-bay” And I know one of you fuckers are gonna be like “Oh theyre actually bars, you need context.” Bitch shut the fuck up and get off the copium. At this point it settles the debate on whether he has ghost writers or not. You think fucking ghost writers would write this degenerate shit? Fucking think. No Face is a rough 3.

  • Donda.

Donda. Donda. Donda. Donda. Donda is the tenth studio album from hit rapper Kanye West. Through what I believe is the final album to Kanye’s character growth. Donda is full of surprises, let-downs, and what seemed to be a hopeful future to a then-divorced Kanye West. After listening to Donda in 2021 I could never see Kanye release vultures. But here we are. But I don’t want to ruin this review with Vultures, also another thing is, I’ll be referring to the original Donda and not Donda Deluxe because that’s such a really head-scratching record. Boasting 27 tracks, this review is gonna be a doozie. Donda Chant Donda. Donda. Donda. A solid album intro very clever. I give this a Donda out of DONDA. Jail To its brash instrumentals, to Kanye’s singing, this song is incredibly unexpected. The mixing on this track is slightly painful sometimes because the autotune on Kanye is a little out of whack. The lyrics are incredibly solid but there weren’t any lyrics that really pushed its head out. It sometimes gets a little ear-rapey because of how brash the instrumentals are. And the EQ placed on Kanye’s vocals sometimes just make it a high pitched murky mess. Jay-Z. I mean hes ok. Hearing Jay-Z on a Kanye track post- Watch The Throne feels so eerie but its nice. I guess Donda is all about finding retribution so maybe it makes sense for Jay-Z to feature. Jail at times is a little jarring and a slow mess but the ending slaps. The drums are great as it highlights the normal trap beat structure but with more rudimentary drums. Jail is a solid 7. God Breathed Sample is so bad. Lyrics are so bad. It’s a bit out of whack but fits the themes of Donda. It lowkey feels like a left over Yeezus stem but ehh. God Breathed is an unlistenable 2. Hurricane The Weeknd honestly hard carries this track. Kanye’s rapping is probably on the weaker side of this track. I know people are going to be upset by this but like damn I expected more. I enjoy the Yandhi version of Hurricane more, but I can still appreciate Donda’s version as its more mature, dark, and fits the pain of Donda. Hurricane is a strong 8. Praise God Travis Scott. PlayBoi Carti. Kanye West. A 9. Disclaimer: Junya and Jonah are lowkey stinkers. They aren’t bad songs but theyre just forgettable. They honestly just dilute the album and make the record weaker. For Kanye to be so meticulous with the track lists of previous albums, Donda just feels like a mess of unfinished thoughts and ideas. Donda would honestly be a 10 if Kanye just cut out half of the bullshit songs and strengthened the more complete songs. Ok Ok Now this is music I like. Donda to me feels like an album of survival. Hearing Kanye rapping at this magnitude. Tackling themes of alienation and backstabbing its so impressive. He’s in so much pain and its incredible to see the type of music that comes from this pain. The chorus is banging and one of the rare times where I enjoy Kanye’s rap-singing. Ok Ok is a strong 8. Believe What I say Honestly just a good groove. I think this is one of the least creative tracks on the album but still enjoyable. Sampling Doo-Wop, it really elevates the song and brings some groove into Donda. The chorus is very fun, and the rapping is cool. Believe What I Say is a strong 9. 24 If we just ignored the first half of the track and focus on the second half I would give it a 7. This track just feels incredibly unfinished and at times the mixing is just incredibly jarring. Even the rapping seems unfinished. What seems to be just infested with weird spaces where lyrics are supposed to be 24 is just disappointing. I can see the vision and the plan for this track. Just like.. I don’t know… finish the track? 24 is a rough 4. Remote Control The only good part of the song is the drums. I really don’t like this song. The singing is stinky and the lyrics are just nothing burgers with a side of French cries. The rapping makes this song slightly more enjoyable but its just so dead. The Glob-glob sample at the end is so fucking funny. So I have to give this a 100/1 Moon My second favourite track of the album, Moon is atmospheric. My soul elevates when listening to this track. Don Toliver and Kid Cudi are the duo I never knew I needed. Moon is a 10. Heaven and Hell How the fuck is this the next track after Moon. Fuck me. Heaven and Hell is a 2. Its slightly better than carnival. Donda A 10. Keep My Spirit Alive This is the half where Donda gets good. Its soulful, its raw, its painful. An 8. The choir synths is so beautiful. Pure Souls My favourite track on the album, Pure Souls is a 9. The lyrics are empowering with my favourite being: “It aint how it used to be, This the new me, so get used to me” He knows that life can never return how it used to be so he can only move forward through his music and lyrics. And this new style of music, a somber tone mixed with religion was a Kanye that inspired and moved. The chorus elevates these themes and the girl at the end (I don’t know her name) just makes my body elevate. Come To Life Probably one of Kanye’s most raw songs, Come To Life is moving. The lyrics dive deep into Kanye’s marriage, but the lyrics also question our existence. Lyrics that stand out are “I don’t want to die alone” “I get mad when she gone, sad when she gone, mad when she home.” He knows he can’t be happy with her, but he knows he’s in pain without her. Its so sad and empowering, seeing Kanye transition to this type of music but it’s an important change that closes Kanye’s road to redemption. The piano at the end of the track brings more hope to the track and transitions this pain to a state of hopefulness. It dives deep into Kanye understanding his pain and using it to open himself up to the world and a new era of him. “They cannot define me” A perfect 10. No Child Left Behind The definitive end to Donda and metaphorically the end to Kanye. Its beautiful. A strong 9. Closing thoughts: Donda is arguably one of Kanye’s most emotional albums. He’s in so much pain and being hounded with so many conflicting thoughts, Donda allows him to get it out to the world and show his pain. Also being one of Kanye’s largest albums, Donda is plagued by unfinished tracks, lazy mixing, and overall, just incredibly empty. However, on the other hand, you have perfectly mastered tracks, filled with emotion, and story. Donda’s state reflects onto Kanye’s mental health at the time but that can’t be a good enough excuse for me to give this album an incredibly high score. If I didn’t factor in all those poorly made tracks, I would give Donda a 10. Unfortunately, I do have to factor in those barely listenable tracks and therefore have to give Donda a strong 6.

  • Hardstone Psycho

What seems to be the next installment of Don Toliver’s musical journey. Fuck me im sorry, I just wanted to sound smart. Hardstone Psycho, a new album from Don Toliver is lowkey mid as fuck. This album in my opinion is weak. Like the music is good don’t get me wrong, its just ehh. I’m not exactly the biggest Toliver fan but I do think that he’s managed to elevate majority of the tracks hes been on like Moon and Too Many Nights. Compared to Toliver’s older works like Life of a DON, Hardstone Psycho is wet. I’d like to start off with saying that the instrumentals and producing is very nice, all the beats are fun and there were no songs where I was questioning what I was listening to. But that’s also my problem too. Its not that every single track sounds the same, its that theres never a break or disruption in the style of music. It’s fine if you enjoy this type of music but me personally, I thought he would spice things up more and maybe be more “creative”. That also then brings me onto the disc situation. I’m not gonna bitch and moan like Fantano and complain about the 4 discs, I’m just complaining about how underutilized it was. Theres honestly no point to the discs. If youre gonna do discs at least make it artistically impressive or create some contrast through the album. This entire record just feels like copy and pasted tracks that’s just been slapped on with autotune and rap features. A positive was definitely the features on this album but then the only good songs that are on this record are the fucking songs full of features. Don Toliver as a solo artist did not deliver, the music is basic as and at times just disappointing. Also: “I'm sippin' dropI ride my motorcycle, make her pussy pop” Like buddy. Btw this part is just full of autotune, and it sounds like he’s burping while saying this which is just hilarious. Secondly, this entire track is just underwhelming. I don’t know how ive said that but ye. Bandit is honestly peak, the trap beats are so rough and static with its striking guitar riffs, BANDIT honestly breathes much needed life in the already dead album. Its ironic because despite the album being more hardcore than his older works, Hardstone Psycho somehow feels softer and more weaker compared to his older records. I think my favourite track on the album would probably be ICE AGE. Travis and Don are a duo I can never get tired of and I think all my favourite tracks had a Travis feature on so ye. I also think I’m gonna change the grading system into letters because I don’t want to do numbers anymore so I give this album a C+ (rough 6). Its not exactly a bad album, just something that’s lowkey forgettable and just stained with all the weaknesses of trap music.

  • The Life Of Pablo: An Album Review

Radical, distinctive, life changing. Im all out glazing this album because its honestly one of my favourite Kanye albums. This album is the most Kanye Kanye can ever be and its honestly almost perfect. Straight off the bad, The Life of Pablo or TLOP because im lazy is a perfect ten. Now before you fuckers go “If To Pimp A Butterfly was renamed To Pimp a Pablo you’d give it a ten” and guess what I fucking would. The meaning behind this album’s title is amazing as it dives into another era of the life of Kanye West. He sees himself as the 3 pablos. A mover of art, a mover of music, and a mover of the soul. He creates art, he tells a story, he moves product. Now throwing the emotional attachment aside (I listened the fuck out of this album when I broke up with my girlfriend), TLOP seems to be a mixture of everything Kanye’s done over the years and some more. Nearly every song is filled to the brim with familiar faces of Kanye’s discography but also new fresh faces. I’ll cut the introduction here because I actually want to get into some of the music. Ultralight Beam The features on this is exceptional. It’s filled with emotion, captivating your soul and your ears as you navigate through the pain, the sorrow, and the hopefulness each artist brings to this track. With its large 5:20 runtime, Kanye maximizes this through the structure of the song. The track itself has no chorus’ and honestly it doesn’t need it. It’s a tone setter, a game changer. Kelly Price. GOOD LORD. Her vocals, immaculate, the choir backing her up, perfect. Chance The Rapper’s verse is solid as well. His soulful, light rapping style is refreshing and makes the song sound so hopeful. One bar aged exceptionally poorly though “I met Kanye West, I'm never going to fail” is just funny looking back at it but its amazing. The ending is also perfect, the choir chant OH MY LORD. Theres just something about choirs that just show the beauty of music. Ultralight Beam is a 9. Father Stretch My Hands Part 1 “Now, if I fuck this model And she just bleached her asshole And I get bleach on my T-shirt I'ma feel like an asshole” I just wanna say that this song is almost perfect but its plagued with so many problems. Kid Cudi and Metro Boomin hard carry this song so much from the choir, to the chorus, to the opening, to the beats, the producing is top notch. Its loud, energetic, and inspiring. It fills and captivates sound so well I just wish it never ends. But unfortunately, it does, like 2:10 in. Like what the fuck. Also the bar I opened up this track review with is so bad. Its such a notorious and Kanye-esque line it makes no sense. For a song using a choir sample and for a song leading from Ultralight Beam, this bleached asshole line is so out of pocket and out of nowhere. But the chorus is so good I really cant get mad with this song. Theres so much energy in this song and Kid Cudi is beautiful so I have to give this song a strong 8. Pt.2 NO KENDRICK VERSE. It’s a 6. Its just a panda remix, the start is cool ig but ehh mid AF. Famous “I made that bitch famous”. With its sometimes-questionable lyrics, Famous is overall a really solid song. Its structure causes some verses to feel out of place, but overall, very solid. The ending is peak. Who knew someone saying one word could be so entertaining and fun. Famous. An 8. I think ill take a pause here and just change the setup of this review. I normally review every single song but in this case, I just want to write about songs that I truly care about or blow me away. I Love Kanye This is probably the most Kanye-esque song ever. I think this is a perfect song as it highlights Kanye’s mental state as well as how the media portrays him. He seems to be in love with what Kanye represents, essentially losing himself in the idea of Kanye. Kanye’s life itself has so many radical changes, it makes sense for him to reevaluate who Kanye is and who Kanye must become. This ongoing question on who he wants to be is the main theme of this album and its honestly just so beautiful. He knows which Kanye he needs to become but the real question is does he want to? A perfect 10. Waves TURN THIS SHIT UP. Oh my lord. Its perfect. Chris Brown is such a piece of shit but goddamn does he make this song good. Cudi’s humming elevates this song to a higher level however, it makes this song perfect in terms of producing, singing, and just overall tone. I can listen to Cudi humming any day. A perfect 10. FML This song makes you fucking think. It makes Kanye think. This album is so genius and intuitive because it really allows Kanye to dive deep into himself to create songs that move as well as songs that help us understand him. Music is Kanye’s passion, his life, and its honestly beautiful seeing him continuously discover and change himself through music. Now the lyrics. The entire intro is peak. Its short, sharp, and goes straight to the point. It opens with Kanye re-evaluating his choices but also slowing down in terms of what’s he doing. He knows that he’s moving too fast, trying to do too many things, and if he doesn’t slow down, he’s going to lose himself and his family. He also highlights his terrible impulses with women and how destructive this behaviour is. This entire song is just him looking at himself and acknowledging the flaws Kanye possesses. All this meaningful lyricism is elevated by the rhyming pattern and simplistic instrumentals. “They wish I would go ahead and fuck my life up Can't let them get to me And even though I always fuck my life up Only I can mention me” While Kanye is aware that so many people want him to make mistakes, he knows that he is the only one that can make those mistakes. In the end he knows that he is the only one that can fuck up, that can lose himself, and destroy himself. It shows a deep reflection on his past mistakes as well as his past pain from the Taylor Swift incident, to the splitting of his ex-fiancee, to even the death of his mother. All of these factor in to the psych of Kanye West as these moments bring him down and destroy him. He knows that he is the only one that can make him lose his mind. Finally, in the outro, Kanye learns that he bases everything on feeling rather than logic. He knows his emotional attachment to things is unhealthy, and sometimes blinds him to what reality is. Overall, FML is perfect. And a perfect 10. Wolves Fear, hope and love. A perfect 10. No More Parties In LA A song that dives into the problems with the rich life is essentially no more parties in LA. The sample is immaculate. The rapping is immaculate. No More Parties in LA accentuates the clever lyricism between Kanye and Kendrick as they continuously try to top each other on who wrote the cleverest bar. The rapping on this is also insane as the flow, speed, and precision is so fun. Overall, this song is so playful as Kanye and Kendrick both share stories on the fake celebrity lifestyle. Kanye seems to also put his all in this song, out-rapping Kendrick and even joking about the old clever Kanye is back. No More Parties In LA is a 10. Fade Its house music roots, combined with modern production techniques and memorable visuals, have cemented it as a significant entry in Kanye's catalog and a noteworthy moment in the evolution of contemporary music. Post Malone and Ty Dolla $ign hard carry this song as they sing about love and desire. They seem to almost be on an ego trap as they rap about the entire world being on their dick. A perfect 9. Saint Pablo The perfect ending track to The Life Of Pablo. Saint Pablo unravels all of Kanye’s darkest thoughts. The emotional tone of Saint Pablo is complex, blending vulnerability with defiance. Kanye's delivery is earnest and raw, conveying a sense of urgency and desperation. The song captures a moment of profound self-reflection, where Kanye confronts his demons and seeks understanding. Kanye's openness about his mental health and financial struggles invites listeners into his inner world, exposing his vulnerabilities. But despite his struggles, there is a tone of defiance and resilience. Kanye asserts his worth and artistic vision, refusing to be defined by his challenges. Finally, the song is deeply introspective, with Kanye examining his life, choices, and identity. This introspection is marked by both clarity and confusion, as he navigates his complex emotions. Overall, its an emotionally rich track, where Kanye tries to fight his vulnerability. The Life Of Pablo is probably the deepest Kanye album as it represents Kanye’s highest point in his life and the fears that it would all be taken away if he makes a mistake. And that pressure, is something he must acknowledge and work towards embracing. He has a lot of things to lose, and ultimately, his decisions now will either destroy or secure his dreams of a perfect future. A Perfect 10.

  • Hit Me Hard And Soft: An Album Review

I think Billie Eilish is one of the most creative artists right now in the pop landscape, but this album is definitely not as good as When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? This record is still pretty solid, and definitely an album that is instrumentally rich, and has an honest vibe. First of all the album cover. Wow. Its strong, its distinct. Its almost metaphoric as sometimes I feel like im drowning listening to her music. You see the problem I have with Billie is that listening to her feels like Chinese water torcher, she gives me small droplets of sound and energy but out of nowhere I feel like im drowning from way too much energy. The tension on a lot of her music is a bit of a mess but I also think its pleasing sometimes. I think review is going to be a little different. I normally review every single song, but I think ill just talk about songs that stood out for me in this record. First of all I’ll talk about some tracks that stood out to me. Bittersuite With its clever play on words, the music perfectly matches its name. What seems to be groovy elevator music turns into an elevator straight to hell. The electronic stabs into the groove line perfectly encapsulates the pain being evoked in this record and keep the theme of sadness and an overall a mundane attitude. Its ending is honestly such a delight as it leads on to the ending track and honestly my favourite song. BLUE Its so melancholy holy shit. I feel like my introduction to this record was wrong. This album is something more than Billie Eilish’s early works. Her voice is beautiful and the instrumentals are stylish. Its not really a switch from her more common noise but its still different nonetheless. It seems more spacy, and airy. Theres a lot of empty space all over the track and the main album. Its stylish and unique. Sometimes the silence even elevate the tracks. Another thing I really like are the switches in between each song and even in the song. The beats come in so smoothly and the mixing on this record is a delight. The mood switches in the album constantly keeps me guessing and I love it. This is probably now one of my favourite Billie Eilish albums and a solid addition to her discography. I don’t think there are necessarily any “weak” tracks, its more like the tracks feel too empty. Its like, the music isn’t bad, its more like a meh. Sometimes its just way too empty and slow for me to form an opinion bound by enjoyment or disdain. An example of this would be THE GREATEST. Like every single time id feel like shed destroy the tension with a full on orchestral blast it never happens. She edges the tension on the track way too much where it just feels way too empty. Only in the end does it go ham but sometimes it just feels too late and my excitement is over. The music isn’t moving, its literally dead. And for that to happen is just a little annoying. A lot of the tracks blur together as well, with its constant dead vibe, every song becomes mashed up into a massive ball of sadness. Very rarely did any of the tracks really step out of their shell and show me what they had. Despite these small problems, Hit Me Hard and Soft was still an enjoyable listen and I love the passion and uniqueness towards Billie’s music, as well as the creativity and influence she has on the pop music industry. Hit Me Hard and Soft is a strong 8.

  • In Rainbows: An Album Review

Despite not being my favorite Radiohead album, In Rainbows is still a beautifully mastered record. First of all, its simplicity, minimalistic style is something I respect a lot about Radiohead. Everything feels soulless yet authentic. I think this is one of Radiohead’s less experimental albums (hear me out) as it kind of tucks itself into Radiohead’s bed. But before we go night night on this review, I want to reveal some of the bed bugs. And theres quite a few of them. 15 Step I guess it’s a good tone setter for the album. I appreciate the opening drums that drive the majority of the song. Its guitar chords are melodic and instill a sense of stagnant fear that rises up and down the album. Very aesthetically pleasing. The song slowly opens to reveal itself into a massive wormhole where you fall down a blend of psychic synths and the choppy and at times crusty drums. The lyrics, I mean they aren’t much. Radiohead’s lyrics aren’t really something I admire, and I know people think theyre fucking deep and shit, but I personally don’t give a flying fuck. Overall, 15 Step aligns itself on the weaker opening tracks to a Radiohead album, but a solid track, nonetheless. 15 Step is a solid 7. Body Snatchers Now this is what I want from a Radiohead. Its brash guitar, its drums, and the whiny singing blends into a perfect amalgamation of blatant noise and rhythm. It’s noisy. It’s messy. It’s whack. A perfect 9. I think what Radiohead does well is the placement of breaks. When I mean breaks I mean these short moments where they let the listener breathe. To process what they’ve just listened to but also prepare what’s next. The small guitar riffs and interplays create a perfect transition to the second half of the track that just gets messier and messier. I feel like my body is getting ripped apart by the end of the track. A perfect 9. Nude Oh my god. It’s beautiful. It’s such a tonal shift and the first few seconds of the opening is heavenly. Nude is a solid 8. Weird Fishes/Arpeggi I don’t know if people are going to like this one. So, I guess I’ll start with the drums. It’s nice. The opening is nice as well, the guitar is incredibly solid and the shift into a minor tone was perfect. Personally, I don’t think I fuck with this song as much as everyone else, but I can appreciate why many people like it. I honestly think the song is devoid of basically everything and I believe this is intentional but what sets Radiohead apart is that it still had humanity despite being stripped away from all emotion. So its lowkey kind of goofy. Maybe I just don’t get it. To me, this song feels like a nothing burger, and maybe I’m more of a The Strokes fan but this song really just doesn’t hit it for me. Extra Bits: Ok, so normally I write my review while I’m listening to the song and I kind of already form an opinion or number by like halfway through the track, so I guess I’m a little special. I just listened to what I believe was the “Arpeggi” part. I get it now. The transition is stellar. The ending is stellar. The space that’s being filled is peak and honestly saved this song from me giving it a 4. Is it still one of the best songs ive heard in the album? I doubt it. I’ll give Weird Fishes a weird 7. All I Need This song is literally all I need. A strong 9. Faust Arp I can appreciate the elements incorporated in this track; I just can’t get past the singing. I can always appreciate a good violin, but I don’t think it’s enough to save this song. Honestly, this song would be perfect if there was no singing. Am I a hater? Probably. I love the instrumentals on this song so much, but it just gets ruined by the singing. I think it’s even more annoying that you can’t really hear the singing. The mixing on this track is odd because it feels way too loud for something to be quiet. If the singing was brought up and actually emphasized, I would probably like it but the fact that it’s so soft it pisses me the fuck off. And sure, people are going to say “oh but it adds depth and layers to the song” I don’t give a fuck. If it’s shit. It’s shit. Faust Arp is a weak 3. Reckoner Oh boy. This album really took a nosedive huh. I’m just fucking with you. Its ok. I don’t know why it has so many listens because I think this song is just so mid. The tambourine in the background is so ear rapey it’s like please turn it down. Literally if they just had the guitar and singing it would be good. But of course, they must add the tambourine, so of course they must bring my score down. The ending is really nice but it’s just a tiny bit too late to get good. I reckon Reckoner deserves a strong 7. House Of Cards I fuck with it. Strong 8. Jigsaw Falling Into Place What seems to be my favorite track on the album. It does everything for me for a Radiohead song. It’s menacing. Stinky. Dirty. The guitar is peak. Drums do the job. AND THE SINGING DOESN’T PISS ME OFF. WOOHOO. Holy fucking shit, I’ve been so pissed off by the singing in this record but singing in this track is actually a strong attribute. The guitar on this is something I constantly go back to when listening to this track because it’s just so yucky. Its honestly a 10. Videotape Wackadoodle. I give it a 2. I don’t even want to write a conclusion to be honest. Like I’m a fan of Radiohead but that ending was so fucking lackluster holy shit. Like I don’t want every single ending track to be a full on orchestra, I just want it to be good. Videotape is not good. I was honestly going to give this album a very strong 9 because the majority of these songs are bangers but that last song really pisses me off. So, for now, In Rainbows ends with just a 9. Yep, all by itself. No extra words attached. It’s just 9.

  • Yeezus: An Album Review

A strong 5. OWAHHHOWAHHHOWAHHH. Yeezus. You guys aren’t gonna like this review. As I’m typing this review I’m smiling because I know how many of you fuckers like this album. Yeezus is a hard, static, crushing album that contains Kanye’s most hidden gems and most popular songs. But I think that these hidden gems should just stay hidden. This is arguably Kanye’s most experimental album and will forever hold a place in producing history. On Sight Peak. Its opening, gorgeous, its weird, static, ear piercing noises is what gives on sight life and a voice to tell a convoluted story of whats going in Kanye’s fracturing mind. The lyrics are disgusting, horrifying, distasteful and yet it works so well. It continuously puts in a tug of war between good and shit. The instrumentals make me want to kill myself and yet I want and more and more. “We Get This Bitch Shaking Like Parkinsons” Fucking diabolical. These lyrics are scattered althrought Yeezus. For better or for worse. Secondly, the sample in On Sight is peak. The lyrics perfectly convey Kanye’s mindset going into this album and its so bold, its impressive. On Sight is a good album opener and a strong 7. Black  Skinhead Its industrial beat, brash guitar, and static beats all mash up together to form a song about racism and fame. This seems to be a consistent trend throughout Yeezus but its specifically explored in Black Skinhead. Its drums incredibly potent in this song, with its opening lick beig heard throughout the track. The lyrics although basic still convey his firm (oh boy) stance on racism. His rapping seems to follow the style of Power from MBDTF and its very intoxicating. Black Skinhead has unfortunately been overused and overdone by the modern media however the song will forever remain a good song in my books. Black Skinhead is a solid 7. I Am A god. Oh god. Uhm, its shit. Im just saying this openly and honestly. Its not a good song. Sure it continues the themes of industrial music and Yeezus but its just not good. The constant repeating of “I am a god” is so weak and pretentious its like fuck me. Its instrumentals are weak and throws away all the energy that was built up by its predecessors. I Am A God is such a weak track for the record and a really weak 4 in my eyes. Instrumentals are stale and feels empty at times, and the song is just overall dead. New Slaves From the beginning to its end, New Slaves is peak. Its opening sample is impressive and Kanye’s barbaric, almost insane rapping style lives and breathes hatred towards the media and how they try to “control him”. Its nice to see him bring something so passionate to the track and the production on this is top notch. Even the stupid dick bars in the track are funny and contribute to the idea of him being original. Now the ending. Perfection. Its such a weird change of pace but it works in a way. Frank Ocean’s ad-libs are enjoyable and adds depth to the track. New Slaves is a 9. Hold My Liquor I don’t fuck with this track man. Like the feature is alright but like eurgh the beats suck soooo bad. Industrial beats are hard to do, they are invasive, abrasive, and intrusive to whatever you combine this clusterfuck of a beat with. And unfortunately it just doesn’t work here. The rapping is alright but the instrumentals are so weak. Hold My Liquor is a weak 5. I’m In it Bro is not in it. Hes not in anything actually. “Eatin' Asian pussy, all I need was sweet and sour sauce” What the actual fuckkk. I give it a 2. Shut the fuck up, the second half is better but still shut up. It’s a 2. Its bad. Its not good. Im not gonna say why because I cant be bothered. But its bad. Guilt Trip What may be the most underrated track on the record, Guilt Trip is a strong 8. I just love the beats man. The industrial electric synthy bullshit Kanye does on Guilt Trip and New Slaves is so nice. Rap verses are good but the lyrics are wet as fuck. Not a good wet. A sitting on a wet toilet seat wet. The Cudi part at the end. Oh Cudi. Oh my sweet baby boy Cudi. The sample is peak. Everything about this song is so good. Guilt trip is an 8. Bound 2 Will we ever make it to the church steps? Are you tired of loving? Will I ever find love? Bound 2 is a masterpiece. To the sample, to the track’s structure, to the rapping, to the lyrics. Peak. Bound 2 is beautiful and a perfect 9. Overall, Yeezus can be summed up as experimental. Its industrial sounds paved away for harsher sounds and shifted the sound of rap yet again. Yeezus contains one of the best Kanye West songs it just sometimes loses itself in ear piercing noises and stupid lyrics. Yeezus is a a strong 5.

  • Yandhi: An Unreal Album Review

You guys must be thinking what am I on about, how am I reviewing an album that was never released? Well, dear viewers/readers of the site, poopy-di scoop. This will be a review on uploads of Yandhi sooo ye. I would like to begin with Yandhi, the greatest album we never got. There are hours and hours worth of Yandhi’s music but for this review I’ll be reviewing the well known songs of Yandhi and base the records structure on Youtube videos and Kanye fan theories. Normally, I’d start this review breaking down songs etc but I want to do something different. I doubt anybody is going to read this review because this album does not exist so I’m going to try something different. Firstly, the narrative voice and style of this album fluctuates. The beats are very eerie, and at times feel off world. It feels like the humble beginnings or even inspiration for Donda’s music as this time of music feels lighter than Kanye’s industrial heavy beats of Yeezus. Its beats seem to be incredibly 808’s based (who saw that coming), and the samples are different. Instead of old soul music being cut into loops, Yandhi’s sound seems to be more modern, slick, and light. Songs like New Body literally only contains a flute and 808’s. But other times we hear the industrial sounds return like Chakras. Its heavy beats and loud thumps add disparity to the record and makes this entire album so unique. Songs that I really enjoy are nearly all of them. Each song is unique and offers a perspective into Yandhi and its transition to more bare boned instrumentals of Jesus is King . Many of these tracks in Yandhi were reborn through JIK and I think its for the worse. I miss the electronic yet vibrant feel of Yandhi than the more humane, raw feel of JIK. Yandhi also boasts an incredible amount of guest features. Ty Dolla Sign, Pusha T, Kid Cudi, Nicki Minaj, and more are on this record and its such a shame it was never released. I can’t really judge the mixing on this record as the leaked versions of songs fluctuate in quality. But who cares to be honest. Every song on Yandhi is a banger and if it was released it would probably be my favourite Kanye album. Yandhi is a very specific album in a very specific Kanye mindset. The songs feel unreal, the vocals feel unreal, everything about this record feels like something that could have happened if Kanye made a different choice. I feel like this is the most talked about unreleased album and I can see why. Theres so many creative elements to this record and really elevate what GOOD Music was all about. Each song feels perfect as well. Law Of Attraction’s layers are so good and the saxophone solo at the end was immaculate. Yes, theres a fucking saxophone solo. This entire album feels so unreal and its like aefefwfwefafw. The marching drums at the end, the choir performance, everything just feels so euphoric. Everything about this album is so good, its honestly such a shame. Other songs such as Hurricane and City in the Sky boast incredibly relaxed yet distinctive instrumentals that backs the long list of features each track possesses. Overall, Yandhi was the album we never got because we simply never got the Kanye Yandhi needed. Even till now, fans are constantly editing, mixing, and perfecting Kanye’s perfect album he never released. Yandhi will forever hold a soft spot in my heart and probably one of the only Kanye albums I would give a 10. Yandhi will forever hold an unreal 10.

  • Rise And Fall Of a Midwestern Princess: An Album Review

Twisting and unexpected. An album requested by Fred and Indigo, RFAMP is an album created by Chappell Roan. Normally my introductions have an insight into the album but I think I’ll develop it more as I listen to the album and my conclusion. Femininonomenon Hm. It’s beat switchups and personality is the only reason why I’m satisfied with this song. The lyrics are dead ass goofy at times but it fits its genre. I prefer the more raw parts of the song rather the parts with the beats because it feels so out of pocket and almost unnecessary. Lyrically, it’s solid, I wasn’t expecting to see brain numbing Taylor Swift lyrics but yet again that’s a low hurdle to cross. All in all, it’s not a song I’d particularly want to listen to again but it’s not a bad song. Female something something is a rough 5. Red Wine Supernova: Now this is getting to some good stuff. It blew me away and that’s a good thing. I was instantly surprised to see such a massive quality jump, it’s cringe undertones were wiped away with groove, life, and personality. There’s a certain distinct flavour Roan adds to this song and I like it a lot. It feels rustic and has a very rough aesthetic. Its instrumentals are simple yet groovy, song structure is solid, and maintains a lot of energy. Red Wine Supernova is a 7. After Midnight Its opening is really good. The beats slowly emerge to the centre of the track, and besides being basic, maintains a nice balance of simplicity and enjoyability. The singing at times is a little off but I think it just makes the song feel more authentic and “real”. The vocals are mixed incredibly well, it still displays the vibrancy of her voice without making it too unfiltered. Its chorus is really catchy and the high notes are very good. This song however feels like an imitation of Red Wine Supernova and gives off the exact same vibes. Like it’s a good song but if the rest of the songs all sound like this then fuck me. After Midnight is a strong 6. Coffee Ok, I guess I kinda asked for it when I said all the songs sound the same. This ballad comes in so unexpected in the record but its done very well. All energy is dropped and instead replaced with smooth piano and sombre vocals. The lyrics are beautiful and so is the instrumentals. The song feels like if Lana Del Ray got her vocal chords replaced with an angel. The song is moving, powerful, and a breath of fresh air from the first 3 songs. Coffee is an 8. Casual Empty. The song hangs onto a faint thread of hope as the ending of the song barely saves this song from a scathing review. The guitars are bland and it really explains the rest of the track. It feels like a static wet mess. It drags out and feels drowning to listen to. Even the high notes feel out of whack and sounds like they’re dying on this track. I can see why it has a lot of listens, I just don’t see myself ever listening to this track again. The buildup is so slow and even the climax isn’t worth it. You can’t just out everything together at the end and then trick the audience into thinking its cinematic when its so tacky. Its all show and no actual substance. Casual is a casual 5. Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl The beats are out of whack. I don’t fuck with these beats, its so clubby, and the vibes it creates is so stale. The soft talk-singing is weak as shit and this is overall a wet fart. Even the “la-la-la-la’s” are so iffy to me and the chorus is so out of place. The verses feel like they belong in a different song. The chorus is so bright and flashy its just so weird seeing club beats and 808s being brought in. SGUMG is a really rough 6. HOT TO GO! I lowkey fuck with this song. Till its opening till its ending, the energy remains fun and quirky and its overall such a fun song. The opening chant is so bubbly and fun, this song is such a better track to listen to than SGUMG. I don’t really have much to say to this track but I just wanna say its fun and displays the creativity of this track. A strong 7. My Kink is Karma. It’s a strong 8. I like the beats, I like the control of sound, and the lyrics are enjoyable. Picture You What seems to be the most underrated track on the record, Picture You is a strong 9. I just love songs with guitar and really good singing. The story it tells through its lyrics and the vocal delivery is just so nice. The tonal shifts of the track brings so much sadness to the track but it still remains uplifting. It does so many things at the same time and its paying off so well. A perfect ballad to a really solid album, Picture You is one of my favourite tracks on the album. Its vast difference to its opening track really makes me happy as it displays the broadness of Roan’s talent. The ending is honestly ethereal. A strong 9. Pink Pony Club I don’t think I understand the lyrics so the story to me is a little feeble. However, the instrumentals are really nice. Song structure is very solid and despite being in the latter half of the record, the track manages to maintain a strong level of quality and enjoyability. Its guitar solo at the end elevates the song to a very adequate degree and reaches a level of a worthy score when Roan’s ad-libs enter the track. A solid 8. Unfortunately, Naked In Manhattan and California are forgetful, they aren’t bad songs by any means, they’re just insignificant and only add to the tracklist of the album. Those two songs are about a 7 maybe? Oh boy. Guilty Pleasure does not hit the needle on the head for a solid ending track. Its not a bad song I guess, I just wanted more. Theres so much fluctuating energy throughout this entire record and I just think the ending falls flat. This genre of music is something I don’t really listen to or want to listen to but Roan has helped me digest some of these new ideas and embrace the colourful and vibrant world of the midwestern princes. Some of these songs on the album are actual fun bangers with high energy while also being captivating and breathtaking with its ballads and sad songs. There is a lot of creativity and ingenuity on the record its just unfortunately it falls flat as its plagued with redundant tracks and repetitive songs. The Rise and Fall of a Midwestern Princess is a weak 5.

  • My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy: An Album Review

I'm leaving the final score at the bottom because I want you guys to see why I gave it this number. Supposed to be Kanye’s “magnus opus”, I just don’t see the hype around My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy or MBDTF is THE Kanye album of all time. Boasting nearly all of Kanye’s hits, this album is supposed to forever cement him in rap history. I want to begin by saying that MBDTF is a rollercoaster ride. Each song tells a different story and the sudden tonal shift of the album is incredibly well done, however the latter half of the album is littered with so many little issues, MBDTF is in a limbo from being a 10 or an 8. Dark Fantasy In my opinion, the greatest album opener, Dark Fantasy sets the tone for a lyrically rich, storytelling experience that is woven deep into the album. The opening is a reimagining of an excerpt written by Roal Dahl and exerts itself over the listener as a small lore dump for the creation of this album. The excerpt in my opinion is perfect, theres just one problem. Nicki Minaj has a shit British accent. Her corny, phony ass voice causes a deep irritation and only gets worse as her mouth does not shut up. Her delivery isn’t necessarily bad, just get a fucking British person. And when the beats come in. its gorgeous. The shimmers in the background continues to build up the song as a tale, something magical, and yet it fights Kanye’s rapping. And here is where Kanye brings on his A game, his lyrics are top-notch, pushing the boundaries of good music, and the emotion he slathers onto these lyrics is just amazing. Now the chorus. Can we get much higher? Is the one piece real? Dark Fantasy proves there is. And therefore, a strong 9. Gorgeous From Kid Cudi’s melodic hooks to the stylish loop of the electric guitar, Gorgeous is simply gorgeous. Kanye openly talks about racism and the experiences he faces as a black person. He also critiques the way the media portrays him and fucking love it. The guitar solo towards the end of the track provided by Mike Dean elevates Kid Cudi’s singing and humming. This track has the most solid singing from Kid Cudi and its so funny watching him cook as a feature and yet be so flat in his own projects. Gorgeous is a deeply rich track diving deep into harder themes and displaying Kanye’s creativity as a lyricist. Gorgeous is a strong 8. Power Powerful, loud, delusional. Kanye’s vocals are strong, hard, blurry, as he tries to drive home what it feels like on a power trip. You watch him spiral, lose himself, and yet he continues to move forward, writing powerful lyrics backed by a masterful sample. Its rhythmic switches and drum switchups keep the energy Kanye creates and its so good. Power may be overrated and overdone, but who gives a shit. If it’s a good song it’s a good song. Power is a strong 9. All Of The Lights (Interlude) Piano and violin. That’s all I need to say. Interlude is a solid 8. All Of The Lights Tacky, overrated, poopy. Is what I would have said if I was Fantano. All Of the Lights has a lot of good ideas, its just unfortunate that it does too much too quickly. Its structure is a little out of wack and it feels too messy. The beats and instrumentals go hard. Rihanna is good, and the bridge is honestly beautiful. But despite being so well made, I have to give it a weak 8. I love the song so much but giving it a strong 8 or even a 9 feels wrong. (I might edit this opinion in the future if people are pissed) Monster Its violent, dark, and horrific instrumentals reflect perfectly on the song’s name. Its beats are heavy, like a monster stopping and Rick Ross’ introduction is a perfect way to introduce the song as it boasts a strong roster of features. Kanye’s rapping is top notch however the lyrics are a bit of a head scratcher. The lyrics itself envoke the idea of a praying of innocence or the monsters you become due to the rapper life. Kanye’s lyrics are at times diabolical and down right horrendous. “Have you ever had sex with a pharaoh, put that pussy in a sarcophagus.” What in the actual fuck. Are you putting the pussy in the sarcophagus because you want to fuck it? Or do you want to fuck it to the point its dead? I’m so confused. This line pisses me off so much and its not even funny. Also “Mix that Goose and Malibu, I call it Malibooyauh” Ok this one is pretty funny. Its just so stupid its like what the fuck. “Goose and Malibu? Malibooyauh?” Kill me. Kill me. KILL ME PLEASE. Anyways, besides these small fuckdumpster lines, Kanye’s rap is solid. But Jay-Z on the other hand… Someone needs to give him a list of monsters. He opens up with like specific monsters and then just starts listing basic ass monsters. And then he adds some stupid thing in the end to make it rhyme. Jay-Z its so bad im so sorry, fucking loch ness zombie with no conscious. Kill me. And then another bar is “Rape and pillage, a village, women and children” What the actual fuck is Jay-Z on. Rape pillage a village? No way you went for that specific rhyming scheme and then proceeded to use those specific words. Also rape a child? This some Drake shit and its just so bad. Jay-Z’s rap is so mid except for a few good bars so like eurghghh. But I think the most contentious rap is Nicki Minaj’s. BASIC ASS BARS OH MY LORD. In that tonka the colour of willy Wonka. Youre joking. If her line delivery were as shit as her lines id give this song an honest 4. The beats are fire but its such a fun bad song I can’t look at the lyrics and go fuck ye this shit is good. Like, theres no way youre that impotent in writing lyrics. Anyways, Minaj’s deliveries and fluctuating tone is very enjoyable and a nice addition to Monster. Monster is a light 7. Ye, I can see people are gonna get fucking pissed about this. So Appalled Is honestly appalling. With a 6:37 runtime holy shit does this song drag out. Its instrumentals and sampling is good as usual because its motherfucking Kanye West but the raps are so forgettable, I’m so sorry. Now this song isn’t bad by any means, its just so lackluster compared to the rest of the track. It’s a song that exists and adds to My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’s tracklist. So Appalled is a mild 7. Devil In a New Dress 10. (I’ll probably do a dedicated review for it) Runaway. Runaway in my opinion, a good song. I don’t think its an overrated song because it is genuinely a good fucking song and tells a good fucking story. Its unique opening explains so much about Kanye’s mind and actions that led him to this creation. I also watched the short movie that accompanies this song and its fucking beautiful. The way the ballerinas shrink and grow as they bend to the powerful notes played on the piano. The shuffle beats are amazing and really shows Kanye’s mastery over the filtration of the 808’s. Its chorus is beautiful, its verse’s are beautiful although the introduction is a little rough with the way he sings about sending nudes but all in all its solid. Pusha T’s rap verse is incredibly solid as well and opens up to arguably the best verse in all of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. And the final 3 minutes is beautiful. At the start I didn’t really get it, I thought it was intrusive and disruptive to the already beautiful ending. But I get it now. The vocoder is genius, it displays the way Kanye functions and operates, and highlights Kanye’s identity from then on. No one can understand Kanye but only Kanye can understand Kanye. So in a way I can never truly understand this song. Runaway is a strong 9. I know, I know I didn’t give it a 10. Cry about it. Ten’s are something I hold dear to me and even though Runaway gets all up in my feely feels I still have to give it a 9. Hell Of A Life Lets be fucking honest for a second. The only reason why Hell Of A life is good or even listenable is the drums and the sample. So for that I have to give this song a light 7. Blame Game Oh my  god. John Legend you talented motherfucker. The sample is gorgeous, the drumming is gorgeous, the vocals are gorgeous. Its so rough, so dry, John Legend did such a good job in conveying the idea of a failing relationship and it honestly gets me in my feels. The lyrics are great even the bitch for short part because it fits the song and it fits the vibe. Now, Chris Rock. This song’s repeatability is a fat zero. Chris Rock’s bit at the end goes for way too long and it just gets so gross and stinky. Chris Rock’s skit isn’t necessarily bad, its just they should have released two versions of this song like in Runaway. Blame Game is one of my favourite songs on MBDTF and in return receives a strong 8. Lost in the world I just don’t fuck with the song to be honest. Like I don’t get the appeal and its always a skip when I listen to the album. Even as I’m writing this review I’ve only listened to half of the song. If people are upset by this review I’ll update it and listen to the full thing. For now Lost In the World is a light 6. I’m not going to review the last song because its just a thing that ends the story of MBDTF. This was the first time I listened to the album from front to back and I honestly can see songs in the tracklist that should be taken out if I’m going to call this Kanye’s Magnum Opus. MBDTF is a very solid album and a nice introduction to the GOOD music era. During the first half and parts of the latter half of the album I can see kanye push the boundaries on what rap music can be as well as experiment on what makes this story a twisted fantasy. Its album cover is a perfect representation of MBDTF and will always be an album I will recommend to whoever wants to get into Kanye’s music. Theres so much emotion in this album and its such a rollercoaster ride seeing someone talk about their ego, their relationships, and their effort to stay in the rap game. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is living proof on what Kanye can do when he applies himself and produces art. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy just breaks through to a 9.

  • VULTURES 1: An Album Review

FUCKING SHIT. Kanye, my glorious king, how the mighty have fallen, my Icarus, you’ve finally flown too close to the sun. And now the Vultures have come, to pick apart your corpse and unravel your distasteful lyricism, crunchy beats, and shitty opinions. To begin this album review, we should travel to the beginning. The announcement of the album. Kanye, to put simply is my favourite artist. And hearing a new album being announced was very exciting. Fast forward to constant delays and political rants, I treated Vultures as the album that would reignite Kanye’s career and prove he was still in control of himself. Boy was I wrong. Vultures, in my honest opinion is the worst Kanye album. Now before Carnival fans start screaming and shouting about how I’m wrong, I have two words. Kill yourself. Shut the fuck up, stop huffing copium and wake up, this is a shit album, this is not Kanye, this is not music. Now, to begin this review I’ll break down a few songs and explore the positives and negatives they each possess. STARS: STARS. I like it. When listening to it, I was eating dinner after work. STARS actually got me pretty excited and I had a pretty positive outlook for the rest of the album. I was wrong. The soft (if that’s even the right word) angelic vocals at the start brought hopeful optimism, with its constant rhythmic switches, it constantly kept me on my feet, wanting to listen more and more. Ty really put his all in this album and I can hear his rough voice clashing against the clusterfuck of what Kanye calls drums, but through all of this, his vocals still proved worthy of high praise. Kanye on the hand, he was alright. It was nothing special, the bars were basic but solid and managed to fill much of the already soothing instrumental. But the stars fall out of alignment when I listened to paid. STARS, a strong 6. PAID: The beats, perfection, as usual Kanye’s producing is top notch despite sounding like he made it through garage band on a fucking iphone 6. Its clunky unfiltered drums made me feel like my speakers were broken but it somehow still worked and proved to be quite memorable and different. Ty’s vocals as usual provided a very enjoyable experience, his hooks are impressive, making me bop to “im just here to get paid” but as I was bopping to this groovy hook and to be honest a really good introduction to a song, I happened to notice weird high-pitched noises scattered in the background. Like Yoko Ono’s bloodcurdling shrieks of what she calls singing, Kanye’s high pitched shrieks was honestly just funny. His high-pitched deliveries sounded like he was a child. To support these childish deliveries, the lyrics or what braindead fans call “bars” matched its childish nature. A certain bar that spoke out to me was “old stomach is the new ass”. Kanye. Please. Despite Kanye’s gurgling, the instrumentals still kept the song intact and Ty’s verse was quite solid. PAID, a strong 4. BACK TO ME: Firstly, I love this song. The opening despite being a bit icky was still fun and displayed Kanye’s creativity in implementing the most random things and making it fit. The drums itself, is… perfect. Time and time again, Kanye shows that he mainstreamed the 808’s drums. But he does it in a way that I find mesmerizing. You see, he compliments these drums with something more primitive and authentic, Japanese taiko drums as well as African drums round out the fullness of the electronic stabs the 808’s possess, creating a very bumpy but fun ride on the rollercoaster of beat making. BACK TO ME does the 808’s best, contrasting it with Lynn drums creating a very fulfilling drum and rhythm pattern. Back to BACK TO ME, Ty’s opening lines that then become the main hook of the song is fucking immaculate, the rhyming scheme etches itself into a corner of my mind that it becomes almost addictive, alluding me to a better version of the song without Kanye. Talking about Kanye, he asks some very philosophical questions like “Beautiful naked big Tiddy Butt-naked women, just don’t fall out the sky you know”, to my answer, no they don’t, and neither is your creative lyricism spread throughout your earlier works present in this shit storm of an album. This small “hook”, if that’s even the right word provides a very agonizing experience and drags out the song, making listeners uncomfortable and putting tension on the listening experience. Thankfully, Ty enters the song again and saves us from Kanye’s disastrous verse. With the beats going again, I was surprised to see a rap verse from Freddie Gibbs. His voice, his line delivery, and rhythm was very enjoyable and managed to make the song end on a high note. The main problem with this song is essentially just Kanye, Freddie Gibbs implemented Kanye’s hook and made it work so I don’t know what Kanye did wrong. But I do know, the Vultures fans just wont be happy when I say it. BACK TO ME strong 5. HOODRAT: Moving on, we go to HOODRAT. Theres not much to say here. The instrumentals are nice, Kanye puts on a very throaty voice when singing which I actually kinda liked? Ty as usual did a good job. Now the massive problem. The HOODRAT part. Its overdone, it becomes distasteful, and it just makes the instrumentals messy. HOODRAT is a solid 5. DO IT: DO IT is one of my favourite songs, despite its cringe opening lines, the beats, Ty’s voice, and Kanye’s rapping show the duo’s charm and the positive and fun attitude Ty and Kanye have to the production on this album. Strong 7. BURN: BURN. I actually listened to this song before the album came out and I enjoyed it a lot and looked forward to seeing its finished version. Somehow the finished version is worse. Ty’s verse is completely cut from the finished version of the album which is just a major head scratcher. Whats wrong with his verse? Anyways, the song is quite addictive and even Kanye’s rap is tolerable, if the song was over 2 minutes I’d probably become addicted to this song but for now I’m going to stick with the leaked version instead. BURN is a really solid song but it also highlights a massive problem that lingers throughout the album. The quality of sound. The album seems quite choppy and static. It doesn’t have the harsh sounds of Yeezus but the sounds remind me of a Nintendo DS. Ty’s vocals sound robotic, I don’t know what filter they put on all of the songs but its honestly not working. Also, Kanye’s lines of “are you not entertained” takes a jab at the obsession of ‘Old Kanye’, at the start I thought it was fun, proving that he can still make his fun old shit. However, it doesn’t really age well when the song you make fun of becomes one of the most streamed song on the album. Boasting a pitiful 1:50 seconds, BURN is a light 6. FUK SUMN: When listening to this song I was thinking, damn, despite the album being kinda shit, the energy is pretty fun, as well as the strong connection Kanye and Ty has. You can see Ty influence the lyrics of this album to make it more sexual so I wasn’t surprised when I saw a song called FUK SUMN. Instrumentals as usual is amazing, despite being clunky and a bit crushed, Kanye consistently destroys any doubt in my mind that he cant produce. The lyrics itself suffers from the same problems as DO IT being a bit too sexual. “Janet Jackson by the way I heard her screamin” was just blatantly disgusting. Also, what the fuck was the Alvin and the chipmunk bar. It goes to a point where its so bad its just entertaining. Weak 2. CARNIVAL: I hate this song. Its not good. I’m talking about carnival. Ill begin outlining the positives before diving into a more unchained and honest review on this piece of media. I’m not even gonna call this a song because its not. Carnival is a joke. A fuckfest of shit bars that try to resemble “music.” To start off with, the beats… very good. Kanye’s sampling is once again top notch and is the only time I can consistently give him praise. His production skills are something I admire, its just a shame that the lyrics on this piece make it so fucking shit. Some lines that stood out to me was: ·        Let her suck the dick, said she was a proIf she scrape with teeth, I'ma tell her to go ·        On my neck, a bubble bath ·        These hoes wanna fuck my car ·        They served us the porn, since the day we was born, Anybody pissed off, gotta make 'em drink the urine Some lines I did find very clever despite being disgusting, the line where he was going to put it in her ass like a ventriloquist was quite humorous but still, its disgusting crude, and disrespectful. Playboi Carti is a joke on this track as well, his signature cartinese was on full action so basically I cant understand what the fuck he’s trying to say. The hooligans on this track was a fun touch its just disappointing that the lyrics ruin this track. Majority of these lyrics in the track don’t even make sense, its somehow even worse than Taylor Swift’s metaphorical bullshit. Carnival. Weak 1. There i fucking said it. VULTURES: Now, I was going to review the main track of this entire album, Vultures but on further inspection and listens, im not even going to review it. So I’m just going to keep this as short as possible. Kanye, don’t joke about jews because its not fucking funny. Unreviewable. Just kidding, 2 out of 10000000. PROBLEMATIC: PROBLEMATIC’s opening reminded me of the start of Bound 2, its more somber tone surprised me and almost reminded me of a more Kanye as explored in the latter half of The Life Of Pablo. Ty’s singing is extremely well done when you ignore the shitty mixing of the vocals and instrumentals. Kanye’s rap was bearable for majority of the song and the ending line was a nice callback to So Appalled. As most reviews are biased I will bump up the score due to my nostalgia boner for older Kanye music. A nice song, strong 7. Ending thoughts: Vultures was just disappointing. I don’t agree with what The Needle Drop said about this album because a critic should be able to occasionally separate the artist from the art but in this case im separating a mad man from his sex doll of an album. Vultures has left an impression on me that will forever make me mad. I hope Vultures 2 will be better. My final thoughts end with: Vultures, a weak 2.

  • Tortured Poets Department: An Album review

Simply put, underwhelming. Its derivative instrumentals create a stale taste that lingers throughout the first half of the album. The once poppy and bombastic beats scattered throughout 1989 have been swapped out for dubious nothing burgers of pure emptiness. Its swirling instrumentals remind me of Taylor swift, scavenging away at the last remnants and unused tunes of Midnights. However, despite Midnights being one of my favourite Taylor Swift albums, the once hazy and smokey vocals of Midnights has been replaced with gasping breaths of a Lana Del Ray imitation.  Talking about Lana Del Ray, Taylor, through my judgment seems to be trying to replicate Lana Del Ray’s deep voice and emotional sorrow or even a watered-down version of Olivia Rodrigo, Guts. To get into the real meat and potatoes, I’ll pull apart some of the songs that caught my attention. And believe me there aren’t many, not to say that there aren’t any problems, but its because each song sounds the same and its honestly disappointing. Fortnight itself is a good album opener and I quite liked it. Its instrumentals, although basic still provided a familiar tone and sound reminiscent of Taylor Swift. Post Malones part was also quite nice, proving himself still worthy of a good artist. Tortured Poets Department on the other hand. Where do I fucking start. You left your typewriter at my apartment. Straight from the tortured poets department Fucking kill me. Taylor Swift, for a while has proven time and time again that her lyricism is as volatile as her relationships. This bland and cheesy opening line baffled me, confused me. Wake up Taylor, what is a tortured poets department? Do you mean Dead Poets Society, that you blatantly copied from? The typewriter itself is meant to establish a connection to Matty Healy. You were together for two months. This really raises an eyebrow because half of this album is about this man. Write something else for ONCE. The album is tiring and a pain to listen to, the same unoriginal story replaying over and over again, dragging this album lower and lower in my mind. These cringe-worthy bars are scattered all over the album and literally kill the poets that try to decipher what Taylor is trying to say. The next line: I think some things I never say Like, Who uses typewriters anyway? This weird fourth-wall breaking just makes me sad. It’s a filler line meant to show Taylor’s exploration and realisation of what shes writing but I really don’t think so. Its supposed to come off as witty, like shes examining and going over what shes saying. This thoughts-to-lyrics process is something quite common in songs but the way Taylor does it. Its just disappointing. Now, I personally dislike Taylor Swift but I do recognise her influence in the music industry and her talent. 1989 in my opinion is a 9/10, a certified banger so it just disappoints me seeing a wet fart of Tortured Poets Department. Moving on, I could write an entire thesis on the embarrassing Tortured Poets Department but I’ll move on to more positive aspects of the album. Despite the name, Down Bad actually left a strong impression on my second listening. The opening instrumentals is actually really nice. The weird tugs in the instrumental proved to be quite entertaining, to be honest, the instrumentals were very nice throughout the entire song. Taylor’s soft talk-singing also added a layer of smooth pure ecstasy that just made me want to close my eyes and reflect on my past relationships. The atmospheric add-ons spread throughout the track provided a very groovy experiment. Now to sum up, because I feel like I’m done with Taylor Swift, Tortured Poets Department was an underwhelming, derivative, and empty album. As usual, her chorus’s proved quite entertaining and hooked me in just as I was about to lose interest in her bland verse’s. Tortured Poets Department, tries so hard to be something Taylor Swift cannot do. The copy-cat vibes of Lana Del Ray just makes me want to listen to Lana Del Ray instead. Tortured poets department holds up to a strong 3.
